DESCRIPTION
The gantry is set up to print limitless in all directions.
The printhead moves along the cross beam (X-axis). A maximum width of 20m. print width is possible, this is sufficient for most buildings because of natural lighting demands.
Since structural materials can be printed, the tracks for movement in Y-axis are 3D-printed within the floor slabs of the building (although separate rails are also possible). This way, there is no need for prefabricated rails and the Y-axis is unlimited in length.
The Z-axis movement (up) is controlled by a motorised track in both columns. After the first level is printed, the cross beam is positioned flat on the floor of the next level. The wheels for Y-axis movement are retracted and the two colums are lifted upwards to the next level. By moving the right column, the print width can be adjusted to the building width. Since this process can be repeated for every level, the height of the printed building is limitless.
The tanks are position adjacent to the gantry and contain up to 48 hours of resource-materials. This allow for continous printing, 24/7. After the initial set-up, the gantry allows for a fully automated process with remote supervision.
After the 3D-printer is operational, the main parts (in white) can be 3D-printed. All motorized components and multinozzle printhead (in red) are plug & play and delivered in a box (‘crate-engine’). This way this 3D-printer set-up can be multiplied infinitely.
